Call for applications for reward scholarships

ROTARY CLUB LJUBLJANA,

minutes

of the commission session for conferring the "reward scholarships of Rotary Club Ljubljana for young people" on 7th January 2004 in the Red Saloon of Grand Hotel Union.

Present: members of commission dr. Božo Kralj, dr. Živko Bergant, Boris Grosman, President of Commission dr. Jurij Tasič and President of Rotary Club Ljubljana Mr. dr. med. Anton Gradišek.

I. Agenda: reviewing applications for reward scholarships and choosing the candidates. Reviewing applications: 46 applications received, two incomplete.
II. Choosing of the candidates

We members of the commission have carefully reviewed the applications received, and the enclosed documentation; considering the conditions for granting two reward scholarships for young people, and considering most of all the purpose of the reward scholarships, we members of the commission have determined that we give precedence to cantidates who already are studying, or have studied, at colleges or faculties, because those candidates can be easily estimated as talented and successful.

We members of the commission have established that the applications are mostly complete, although in some applications were missing some data and proposer's recommendations; in choosing the candidates for the reward scholarships, which is to help those with exceptional talent and success in their studies; at the same time considering the meaning of their study for the nation, as well as the social conditions of the candidate. Members of the commission have agreed that an interesting profession, expertise or ethical component have the least influence on the decidion.

We members of the commission have established that choosing the candidates is dificult, because fourtysix candidates applied for the granting of a reward scholarship; two were not valid. They all have with strong likelihood shown exceptional talent and successfulness, so in choosing we had to consider also other circumstances (for instance, the fact that the scholarship is important for recognition of country, and that we confer a scholarship on two candidates, on three candidates we will confer study support). After the commision's judgment, the scholars of Rotary Club Ljubljana for 2003/04 are following candidates:

1. Dr. Irma VIRANT Klun, 1. place
2. Irena PREDA, 2. place
and
3. Saša RAKEF support
4. Tadej KOROŠEC support
5. Mojca BORKO support
